As a fourteen-year-old who had just begun freshman year of high school and had been diagnosed with a chronic disease, I learned early on how difficult it is to fight for the life you want and the objectives you set for yourself. As I tried to manage my disease and its repercussions for the first three years, I was surrounded by a tremendous support system of medical professionals, family, and friends, who are the reason I continue to strive for a better future. I've always wanted to pursue a career in medicine. Although I studied in exercise science, it was mostly to study how the body operates in this discipline and to improve my health; nevertheless, after two years in the major, I have a newfound understanding for it and the various occupations it may lead to. Having a chronic condition that turned my life upside down and forced me to relearn how to survive in this contemporary world, I discovered a desire to assist others in the same manner I was helped by entering into occupational therapy. Through my experiences and future in occupational therapy, I aspire to help children in the same manner that I was once helped.
